THe Cultural Legacy of NY’s Hudson Valley
We acknowledge that New York's Hudson Valley is situated
on the unceded homelands of the Moh-He-Con-Nuck,
the Peoples of the Waters that Are Never Still.
We acknowledge that this land where we live and work is the contemporary territory of the Mohican and other Indigenous Nations, which comprised some of the roughly 80,000 Indigenous people forcibly displaced from their ancestral homelands east of the Mississippi River through the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
We recognize this land and its people are timeless and pay honor and respect to this history and to the Elders —
past, present, and future, and acknowledge their history, which is an integral part of New York's Hudson Valley history.
We advocate for the autonomy of the Moh-He-Con-Nuck,
today the Stockbridge-Munsee Community,
and support sovereignty in their homelands.
